Going against the modern tradition, J.M. Barrie wrote Peter Pan as a stage play long before he penned the book Peter and Wendy. Over the years, this beloved story has been retold through films, books, and cartoons — but make no mistake, my darlings: Peter Pan was born in the theatre, and he has never felt more at home than on the stage.

Just like a child passionately clapping to save Tinkerbell, I say this with full-hearted belief — live theatre has the power to reach and teach in ways no other medium can. The sacrifices performers make to bring a story to life are deeply vital to a healthy society. But at our core, we actors carry this simple, fairy-sized truth: we didn’t want to grow up. The stage is forever our Neverland. Every performance is a new adventure — a fresh round of make-believe.

Unlike film or TV, which you can revisit endlessly, theatre lives like Peter himself — in the moment, never concerned with before or after. It disappears, like magic, and survives only in the shared memory of those who were there.

Peter and the Starcatcher tells the tale of how our favorite characters came to be, but the way we tell it — in this version, in this space — celebrates what makes Peter Pan truly timeless: Everyone is a lost boy. Everyone is a pirate. Nothing works unless everyone plays the game.

So join us.  Second star to the right. Grab a little Starstuff.  Believe.  We’ll meet you there.

Co-Artistic Director of the Americana Theatre Company, Jesse M. Sullivan's credits include: Americana: Charles (AN AMERICANA CHRISTMAS CAROL), Hercule Poirot (MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS), Karl (BIG FISH), Clement Musgrove (THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM), Bernard, B (BOEING BOEING), Dr. Carrasco (MAN OF LA MANCHA), George Horvath (PARFUMERIE), George Bailey (IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A LIVE RADIO PLAY), Athos (THE THREE MUSKETEERS), Selznick (MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS), Richard/William (THE COTTAGE). Regional: CYRANO DE BERGERAC, THE GAME, THE SPITFIRE GRILL, JC SUPERSTAR, RAGTIME, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, DAMN YANKEES. National Tours: MISS SAIGON, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. NYC: SCANDALOUS PEOPLE (NYFringe), Gregory BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN with the York Theatre Co., Ben Hecht MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS. Training: BFA in Musical Theatre from University of Hartford, The Hartt School.

This imaginative production blends current events, stellar performances, and clever staging, transforming a classic into a contemporary come

Americana Theatre Company's current production of "Peter and the Starcatcher," playing on select dates now through July 20th at The Spire Center, is an absolute must-see. This isn't your average retelling of Peter Pan's origin story; Americana Theatre Company has injected their complete, unique spin into the show, resulting in a vibrant, hilarious, and genuinely innovative theatrical experience.

One of the most striking aspects of this production is how seamlessly it weaves in current events and popular music that resonates with everyone in the audience. This contemporary flair doesn't detract from the classic tale; rather, it enriches it, making the fantastical world of Neverland feel remarkably relevant. Their unique approach to showcasing the power of the star dust is particularly clever and visually engaging, a testament to the company's creative ingenuity.

The cast, as a whole, delivers an outstanding performance, but David Friday's portrayal of Mrs. Bumbrake deserves a special commendation. Friday absolutely embodies the role, creating a character that is both uproariously funny and surprisingly nuanced. It's a testament to his talent and the company's bold casting choices that a male actor can play such a perfectly conceived female role with such grace and comedic timing.

Comedy abounds throughout the show, and the Americana Theatre Company truly utilizes every inch of the stage at The Spire Center. Their dynamic use of space, coupled with a brilliant technique of changing scenes simply by moving characters on stage, keeps the pacing brisk and the audience captivated. The inventive staging adds another layer of charm to an already delightful production.

Beyond the laughter, the show also features several fantastic musical acts that elevate the performance to new heights. The musical performance at the end of Act One, in particular, is a showstopper that will make you feel like you're at a full-blown Broadway musical. It's a powerful and memorable moment that beautifully caps the first half.

"Peter and the Starcatcher" by Americana Theatre Company is a performance you absolutely do not want to miss. It's an ideal date night out, offering something for everyone, and is appropriate for all ages. I have nothing but compliments for the incredibly talented cast and crew who have crafted such an enjoyable and memorable theatrical experience. Do yourself a favor and grab your tickets now – you'll be so glad you did!
